EPT Season #5: Barcelona Open €8,000 Buy-In

EPT, 2008-09-16, by Ozone

I think it's fair to say Sebastian Ruthenberg is having a good 2008. This summer at the World Series of Poker, the 24 year old German won the 7-Card Stud World Championship for $328,000 and his first career bracelet. It didn't take him long to top that magnificent feat.

For the fourth time in four tries, the EPT Barcelona Open had a larger field than the year before. This year, 619 players came together to start the fifth season of the European Poker Tour with a €8,000 buy-in championship. The €1.36M first-place payday catapulted Ruthenberg well beyond Andreas Krause to become the winningest German tournament player.

Ireland's Fintan Gavin finished 2nd to win €792,000. Belgian player Davidi Kitai finished 3rd for €455,000.

The highest placing American was Jason Mercier in 6th place who clearly has a knack for poker on the other side of the pond; he won the EPT tournament in San Remo, Italy earlier this year for €870,000.

The next EPT event will be held at the beginning of October in London.
